Be Wary of “Storm Chasers,” Contractors Warn
The recent severe storms in the area have local roofing contractors warning residents and business owners to be alert to inexperienced repair crews now preying on those with damaged roofs. The so-called “storm chasers” come to areas where hail and severe storms strike, pose as roofing repair personnel, then fail to perform the work. Many also get away with money received as a down payment for the job.
“We’re seeing a rash of these right now,” notes John Stephenson, President of the Midwest Roofing Contractors Association and President of Stephenson Roofing in Maryland Heights. “They follow the storms and the ones we had this week were particularly severe.”
The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local No. 2 reminds residents and business persons to be certain they are using a certified roofing contractor. If you would like more information, contact the Local No. 2 Business Office at St. Matthew’s.
