Roofers Donate to Cardinal Glennon Hospital

The Industry Advancement Fund, established by Roofers Local No. 2 and the Signatory Roofing Contractors, recently donated toys to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. The toys were on the “Wish List” of the Hospital, which serves children, adolescents and their families.

“We greatly appreciate [The Local No. 2’s] thoughtfulness. Each item can definitely be used,” notes Marian Ammons, Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving. “Many children will use these toys in our playrooms, waiting rooms and patient care rooms.”

Roofers Donate to Shriners Hospital for Children

The Industry Advancement Fund, established by Roofers Local NO. 2 and the Signatory Roofing Contractors, recently made a donation to Shriners Hospital for Children. The cash donation allowed the Hospital to purchase educational, life-size skeletal dolls.

The anatomically correct skeletons include identification of major bones and organ systems to help children understand their illness and treatment.

“We are very grateful for the generosity of the union roofers,” notes Alice Woodruff, a representative with Shriners Hospital. “This donation will directly benefit the children here at Shriners.”

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local No. 2 office is located at 2920 Locust Street in St. Louis. The Industry Advancement Fund was established to maintain and promote the unionized roofing industry in Missouri and Illinois and is funded by the Signatory Roofing Contractors.

St. Louis Union Roofers IAF Committee Promotes Industry

St. Louis Union Roofers Local No. 2 and the Signatory Contractors established the Industry Advancement Fund to promote the unionized roofing industry within its jurisdiction. Since its inception more than seven years ago, the program has been a resounding success.

The mission of the IAF is to promote and maintain the unionized roofing industry within the jurisdiction of Roofers & Waterproofers Local No. 2 that includes the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis area. In addition, the IAF works to improve labor/management relations, job security and enhance economic development.

The IAF Committee is comprised of Local No. 2 and Signatory Contractor representatives. The group meets monthly to develop and implement various projects. Examples of this are donating time and materials to Habitat for Humanity and other charitable causes; advertisements in local media; a direct mail campaign to schools and professional organizations; representative visits to area schools and career day events; and an interactive web site. The Committee’s message to the community is, “Choose skill, choose Union Roofers & Waterproofers. Call on us. Count on us.”

The community, Local No. 2 members and the contractors concur that these efforts have enhanced the image and awareness of the roofing industry. Moreover, labor/management relations have been enhanced as a result of the IAF’s efforts.

The IAF is funded by the Signatory Roofing Contractors.

C. Martin Roofing Company Donates To Fortress Outreach

C. Martin Roofing Company recently donated their time and expertise to Fortress Outreach, an interim shelter for battered women and children located in north St. Louis County, MO. The project included removing the existing roof and replacing it with a rubber roof.

“The roof was leaking so bad that it was damaging everything inside,” notes Irma Jenkins, Executive Director of Fortress Outreach. “We are so grateful for their help.”

The roof replacement was part of a complete renovation to the Fortress Outreach building coordinated by David Sutch of Missouri Paint & Varnish Co. He learned of the problems with the facility and contacted several contractors in the area requesting donations of time and materials. His first call was to his brother, Tom Sutch, an estimator for C. Martin Roofing Co.

Roofing Contractors/Local No. 2 Donate Labor, Materials To St. Matthew’s Parish Center

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local No. 2 and their Signatory Roofing Contractors are donating labor and materials to the St. Matthew the Apostle Church’s renovation project. Funding for the project is provided by the Roofers Local No. 2 Industry Advancement Fund. The Church is located at 4068 Maffit in North St. Louis. The project includes repair work to a building adjacent to the church in order to bring commerce, employment and people to the area, notes Fr. Matt Ruhl, S. J., Pastor of St. Matthew’s. Completion is set for early 2000.

“The roof is very old and difficult to repair and maintain. I am very grateful that they took the time to repair it for the long-term,” says Fr. Ruhl. “If the roof were to go, so would the building.”

Materials and equipment were donated by area roofing contractors representing the Industry Advancement Fund. Members of the Roofers Local No. 2 provided the labor.
